Dil Se Children's Home

A typical Keralan house was acquired to provide underprivileged children with a safe and loving environment to grow in. The children's home, called Dil Se, was run by local staff under Swiss management, with the support of international volunteers. Over 12 years we took care of nearly 30 children but on average, 12 children lived there—some were orphans, while others came from poor or abusive families. Creating a nurturing, family-like atmosphere was essential to Dil Se’s mission. Education, trust, creativity, and well-being were fostered daily.

The home operated from 2001 to 2013. Supporting families was also a key part of Dil Se’s vision of social work. Whenever possible, the team provided financial and psychological assistance to families, helping children return home when it was deemed the best option.

By 2025, most of the children, now adults, remained in touch with one another. Dil Se is still their family and we have get-togethers from time to time. Some have started families of their own and pursued diverse careers—becoming rickshaw drivers, painters, builders, fitness coaches, divers, art teachers, and IT managers.

We wish them all the best as they continue to blossom in their own unique ways!
